“Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolf hound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

My love for this wonderful breed started back in March of 1995 when I purchased my first Boxer, “Mindy”. Although she wasn’t a “show dog”, she was my PRIDE AND JOY. She was always with me through thick and thin. Always by my side, she just waited for my next move. Of course she just loved all the attention and enjoyed cleaning my floor of crumbs that may have dropped. Mindy left us in 2007 at the age of 13 years and 9 months. The joy we shared was very happy years for both of us!
First and foremost I want to say we are NOT a puppy mill. We are striving to better the breed and all of our boxers adhere to the standards set by AKC for conformation, beauty and temperament. We constantly get compliments, in person when we go out with our boxer family and by email when people see our site about how beautiful and healthy our boxers look, that is because they are!
My partner, Bob Blumberg, and I had a vision of what might be done to improve the lot of the Boxer in this country. Often dying far too young of various cancers (such as lymphoma, hemangiosarcoma and osteosarcoma) and ARVC (boxer cardiomyopathy), the state of the breed inspired us to look to the concept of general longevity in the pedigree when making breeding decisions. As Dr. Robert Bezel said once in a television interview:
We are a small hobby kennel that is striving to breed quality Boxers that are sound in body and mind. Boxers that are good representations of what the breed standard calls for in type, temperament and soundness. Actually we are not really a kennel, as all of the dogs that reside here are house dogs, and my constant companions.
We have a small kennel of boxers located just north of New Orleans in Mandeville, Louisiana. Our addiction began with the purchase of our first boxer puppy, Harlie, a flashy fawn female. As anyone that is owned by a boxer would know, it’s impossible to have just one. So we began our search for a second puppy. After nearly a year of looking at many litters we decided to breed Harlie.
Here at Ivylane our goal is to breed quality boxers that meet the Boxer Standard of the American Kennel Club and American Boxer Club. We focus on health, temperament, type and beauty. We follow the recommended health screening guidelines for the Boxers in our breeding program set forth by the American Boxer Clubs Health & Research Committee.
I’m Brenda Stuckey, and I live in Jonesboro, a small town in North Central Louisiana. Although I was very enamored by the Boxer breed as a child, being close friends with my step-sister’s big fawn sweetheart “Rocky”, I did not have one of my own to love until my husband presented me with “Ripple” for Christmas in the late 1970’s.
Our dogs come from outstanding working & conformation lineages from Europe. These pedigrees produces a wonderful headpiece, large square bone structure, excellent temperament, along with natural working/protection capabilities. I pay close attention to dominant and recessive gene traits for this is needed to fix a lot of health concerns in the breed.
